The controller connects directly to your iPhone through the Lightning connector, providing a responsive, low-latency connection without requiring Bluetooth pairing or a separate controller battery. Simply insert a compatible iPhone and launch a supported game or gaming service.

The second-generation design includes a reshaped D-pad for improved responsiveness and two sets of magnetic adapters designed to provide a better fit across compatible iPhones and many slim phone cases.

Its console-style control layout includes precision thumbsticks, responsive face buttons, shoulder controls and wide analogue triggers. The white PlayStation Edition uses PlayStation-style button symbols for a familiar gaming experience.

Backbone One supports compatible App Store games and gaming services such as Apple Arcade and GeForce NOW. It can also be used with PS Remote Play to stream supported games from a PlayStation console to your iPhone over a compatible network connection.

A built-in Lightning pass-through charging port allows you to charge your compatible iPhone while playing. The controller also includes a 3.5mm headset jack with microphone support, making it convenient to connect compatible wired gaming headsets for private audio and voice chat.

Compatibility

This Lightning version is designed for most iPhone models with a Lightning connector, including the iPhone 14 series and earlier compatible generations.

It is not designed for iPhone 15, iPhone 16 or newer USB-C iPhone models. Those devices require the USB-C version of Backbone One.
